John Hanson
BSc (Hons)
Founding Director
John received his B.Sc. (Honors) degree in Geology from the CNAA / Polytechnic of North London in 1979 and joined Geoservices SA Far East Division (Singapore) immediately thereafter.
His entry into the oil industry coincided with the arrival of real time and offline computer services and within a year, John had switched from geological analysis to data engineering. He stayed with Geoservices for nine years during which time he progressed through area sales manager to General Manager of the Geoservices/Bohai Oil Company joint venture based in Tianjin, China. On leaving Geoservice in late 1987, he worked in a number of managerial and marketing positions outside the Oil industry, all of which were focused on technology sales and marketing within the Asian region.
In 1995, John was asked to develop a database to analyze a number of geopressured wells offshore Vietnam. This marked a return to programming for John and he soon established IDS (Independent Data Services) as vehicle for a further application that he had written to analyze large upstream drilling databases. This in turn led to the development of a simple daily reporting system from which the current range of IDS applications and services has developed. IDS is now the largest provider of web-delivered upstream reporting services in the world.
