Mark Leyland, Director - Project Construction

Mark Leyland
Vice President Project Construction

Mark first set foot offshore in January 1974 working for Brown and Root Construction in the North Sea Oil and Gas industry during a break from a degree course in Economics. He remained with B&R for 22 years, moving on through offshore superintendent roles to onshore commercial and project management roles, eventually heading up the Subsea Department of the highly successful Saipem/Brown and Root company EMC. In 1996 Mark moved on to the Offshore Cable industry, specialising in environmentally sensitive shallow water installations of fibre optic and composite power/fibre systems before becoming Project Manager for marine installation of the Japan – US cable network across the Pacific Ocean.

As a passionate believer in renewables, Mark set up and managed a renewables company (Oreal) to compete for UK Round 2 offshore windfarm leases and it was during that process that he initially met Ian Hatton and Eclipse. Oreal were placed as ‘first reserve’ when the awards were announced and Mark returned to the Oil and Gas industry for a further four years as Marine Construction Manager for ConocoPhillips SNS before joining Eclipse as Director of Project Construction in 2007. In this role Mark was responsible to the Board for all aspects of the hybrid Ormonde Windfarm project including permitting, engineering, contracting/procurement, schedule and CAPEX development. Following the sale of Eclipse to Vattenfall Mark remained with the project until it achieved Financial Close and all major contracts for procurement and construction had been signed.

Mark joined Baryonyx Corporation in April 2010
